25

We celebrated my 25th birthday at the end of May. This feels like a milestone in life and, given the nature of milestones, I want to share some things I've learned in life thus far: (see my pink birthday party photos below!)

  • Tell the girl in the bathroom you love her skirt.

  • Laugh a lot and never hold back.

  • Forgive. Always and first.

  • If someone or something is upsetting you, take a deep breath and let it go. Do not let it affect how you treat others.

  • Do not be afraid to fall in love, but be wise about who you open your heart to.

  • Ask people questions about themselves. It makes them feel loved.

  • Cry when you need to.

  • Play videos games with your younger siblings, and let them know that you will always be honest with them.

  • Focus your energy more on your character than your outer appearance.

  • Be selfless even when you won't be acknowledged for it.

  • Take a million pictures. Even when the moment doesn't belong on instagram.

  • Smile until your cheeks hurt.

  • Make it count. You only have this one life. Never hesitate to get up early and watch the sunrise, or stay up late to look at the stars.

  • Always sing the song at the top of your lungs.

  • Be open to experiencing new things.

  • Treasure your mom. It's likely that she loves you more than anything in the world and wants the best for you.

  • Mental health is more important than working yourself too hard.

  • Recognize the beauty in nature.

  • Just kiss them.

  • Do not be afraid to believe in something and stand up for it.

  • Be spontaneous with the people you love.

  • Say "yes", dance in the rain, go on the roller coaster, go to that concert.

  • Ask your friends how they are doing, listen, and then support them.

  • Have crazy nights with your best friends, and again: take all the pictures.

  • Appreciate the little things like holding hands, the smell after rain, fresh fruit, flowers, long hugs, secrets, the colors of someone's eyes.

  • Overuse "I love you".

  • Be proud of who you are and how much you are trying.
