Pride + Prejudice Inspired Engagement Session | Cator Woolford Gardens

There is something inherently romantic about Cator Woolford Gardens engagement photos. Tucked away in Atlanta among winding garden paths, stone staircases, towering trees, and layers of greenery, the historic gardens feel worlds away from the city surrounding them. For Cassidy and Cole’s engagement session, that secluded atmosphere became the perfect setting for photographs inspired by the softness and romance of Pride & Prejudice.

Cassidy and Cole also chose Papillon Visuals to photograph their wedding, which made their engagement session especially meaningful. Engagement photos give us the opportunity to spend time together before the wedding day, learn how a couple naturally interacts in front of the camera, and create something that feels distinct from, but still connected to, the wedding photographs that would eventually tell the next part of their story.

A Romantic Cator Woolford Gardens Engagement Session

For their session, Cassidy wore a romantic ivory dress with delicate, vintage-inspired details, while Cole kept his look understated with a cream knit shirt and denim. Against the deep greens of the gardens, the neutral palette gave the photographs an almost storybook quality.

Rather than treating the gardens simply as a pretty backdrop, we wanted the landscape to become part of the photographs themselves. We photographed Cassidy and Cole beneath the trees, tucked into the garden's pathways, on a small bridge surrounded by ferns, and against the property's dramatic stone staircase.

Some of our favorite frames pull far away from the couple entirely, allowing them to become a small part of the landscape. The result feels less like a traditional engagement portrait and more like a still from a romantic period film.

Pride & Prejudice Inspired Engagement Photography in Atlanta

If Pride & Prejudice took place in Atlanta, we think it might look a little like this.

The overgrown greenery, old stone architecture, soft light filtering through the trees, and Cassidy's flowing ivory dress created the kind of quiet romanticism we love to photograph. Instead of relying heavily on traditional posing, we focused on movement, interaction, and letting Cassidy and Cole exist together within the environment.

That approach created a gallery that feels intimate without becoming overly posed: holding hands beneath the trees, leaning into one another on the bridge, sitting together on the garden steps, and disappearing into an enormous landscape of green.

And, naturally, we had to photograph the tiny details we encountered along the way, from Cassidy's engagement ring nestled among the foliage to the elaborate spiderwebs hidden throughout the gardens. Those imperfect, unexpected details are often what make a gallery feel like a memory rather than simply a collection of portraits.

Digital + Film-Inspired Engagement Photography

Cassidy and Cole's gallery also showcases one of our favorite approaches at Papillon Visuals: blending polished digital photography with the texture and nostalgia of analog-inspired imagery.

Grain, imperfect borders, softened colors, and vintage framing give portions of the gallery the feeling of photographs rediscovered decades later. Paired with more expansive digital photographs of Cator Woolford's architecture and landscape, the different formats allow the session to move between editorial imagery and something much more intimate and nostalgic.

We aren't interested in making every photograph look identical. Instead, we love creating wedding and engagement galleries that feel collected--a mixture of documentary moments, editorial portraits, environmental photographs, details, and images influenced by analog film or taken with analog film cameras.

(Since this shoot, our team just scored a new medium format camera from Wings Camera!)

Why Cator Woolford Gardens Is Perfect for Atlanta Engagement Photos

For couples looking for a romantic engagement photo location in Atlanta, Cator Woolford Gardens offers an unusual combination: lush nature, historic architecture, secluded pathways, formal gardens, and dramatic stonework, all within the city.

It can feel elegant and European in one photograph and wild and almost woodland-like in the next. That variety makes it particularly beautiful for couples drawn to romantic, editorial, vintage, or film-inspired engagement photography.

Cassidy and Cole's session is a perfect example of why we love photographing here. Their gallery feels timeless without feeling overly formal, romantic without becoming overly staged, and unmistakably theirs.

And this is only the first chapter — we'll be behind the camera again when they become husband and wife.
