Kayla & Heather’s Atlanta Backyard Wedding & GA State Capitol Engagement | WLW Wedding Photography

Heather and Kayla’s intimate backyard wedding in Atlanta was the kind of day that felt effortlessly meaningful. Hosted at Kayla’s parents’ home, their celebration blended quiet emotional moments, editorial portraits, and joyful dancing into a deeply personal wedding experience. Surrounded by close friends, family, and their dog, this Atlanta backyard wedding captured everything we love about intimate celebrations — relaxed, intentional, and full of personality.

This wedding was followed by their engagement session (featured later in this post), making their gallery a beautiful blend of documentary storytelling and romantic portraiture.

A Private Backyard Wedding at Home in Atlanta

There’s something especially meaningful about getting married at home. Kayla’s parents’ backyard created a warm, familiar setting that allowed the entire day to unfold naturally. Guests gathered casually, conversations flowed easily, and the atmosphere felt intimate from the very beginning.

The backyard was transformed with soft florals in warm reds, muted neutrals, and greenery. Candlelight and simple reception details kept the focus on the couple and their loved ones rather than anything overly styled. The result was a wedding that felt timeless, emotional, and authentic.

An intimate Atlanta backyard wedding like this allows space for real moments — quiet hugs, laughter between family members, and a slower pace that makes the day feel fully present.

Getting Ready Moments Filled with Soft Window Light

Heather and Kayla got ready near a softly lit window, where natural light filtered through the curtains and illuminated her gown and veil. Her look felt modern and classic all at once--a structured dress, pearl details, and a clean bob hairstyle that gave the entire aesthetic an editorial feel.

Heather's bouquet mirrored the tones used throughout the day: deep burgundy, soft blush, warm neutrals, and greenery. The palette complemented the cozy backyard setting and helped create visual continuity across the wedding.

These getting ready moments were calm and intentional, setting the tone for the intimate nature of the celebration.

Romantic Portraits of the Brides

Heather and Kayla’s portraits together felt timeless and grounded. Kayla wore a tailored suit with a bolo tie and boutonniere, creating a look that balanced classic and modern styling. Together, their aesthetic felt cohesive, understated, and effortlessly elegant.

Their connection in front of the camera was soft and natural. Rather than overly posed images, these portraits leaned into gentle movement, close proximity, and quiet emotion. The result was a set of images that felt deeply personal and authentic to their relationship.

This is one of our favorite parts of documenting WLW weddings--capturing the unique dynamic and individuality each couple brings to their day.

A Cozy Backyard Reception with FUN Dancing Photographs

Following the ceremony, guests gathered for an intimate backyard reception. The cake cutting felt relaxed and joyful, with everyone gathered close. The vintage-style cake and warm florals tied everything together visually, creating a cohesive and nostalgic atmosphere.

Because the wedding took place at home, the reception felt especially comfortable. Guests mingled freely, conversations flowed naturally, and the celebration unfolded without rigid structure--something we always love documenting.

These quieter moments often become some of the most meaningful parts of intimate weddings.

Slow Shutter Dancing Photos Under the Lights

As the evening progressed, the backyard transformed into a dance floor. Music started, drinks were raised, and the energy shifted into something playful and celebratory.

We captured slow shutter dancing images that reflected the movement and emotion of the night: blurred lights, motion, laughter, and spontaneous moments. These photos add a documentary, cinematic feeling to the gallery and preserve the atmosphere of the evening in a unique way.

The dancing portion of the night perfectly balanced the quiet intimacy of the ceremony earlier in the day.

Their Dog Was Part of the Celebration

One of the sweetest details from Heather and Kayla’s wedding was their dog being part of the day. From wandering through the reception to appearing in candid moments, it added another layer of personality to the celebration.

Including pets in backyard weddings is always special--especially when the setting allows them to be present comfortably and naturally.

Why We Love Intimate WLW Backyard Weddings in Atlanta

Backyard weddings create space for connection. Without the structure of a traditional venue, couples can focus on what matters most which was their people, their story, and the experience of the day.

Heather and Kayla’s wedding was the perfect example of how meaningful an intimate Atlanta wedding can be. Emotional, relaxed, and filled with personality, their day blended editorial portraits with documentary storytelling in a way that felt timeless.

Georgia State Capitol WLW Engagement Session in Atlanta

Before their intimate backyard wedding, Heather and Kayla met us at the Georgia State Capitol in downtown Atlanta for their engagement session.
