Their celebration blended modern elegance with a little bit of edge: a sparkling, intricately detailed wedding gown, black-tie attire, dramatic candlelight, lush greenery, contemporary art, and documentary photographs that captured the day as it actually unfolded.

Getting Ready at Hotel Colee in Buckhead
Allison began her wedding day at Hotel Colee, surrounded by the moody, contemporary interiors that make the hotel such a distinctive backdrop for wedding photography.
Rather than relying solely on traditional getting-ready photographs, we used the hotel itself as part of the visual story. Dark hallways, geometric walls, modern artwork, window light, and flash photography created portraits that felt more editorial while still documenting the anticipation of the morning.
Allison’s gown was particularly incredible to photograph. The delicate floral embellishments, beading, open back, and long veil gave us beautiful texture in both color and black-and-white photographs.
It’s one of the reasons we love photographing weddings at hotels with a strong visual identity: even the quieter transitional parts of the wedding day can become part of the story.
A Rooftop First Look Overlooking Atlanta
Before the ceremony, Allison and Patrick shared their first look on the rooftop at Hotel Colee.
With Buckhead and the Atlanta skyline in the distance, the rooftop gave their first look a distinctly urban feel while keeping the moment itself simple and intimate.
We approach first looks primarily from a documentary perspective. Once the couple is in place, we want to give them enough space to actually experience the moment together rather than continually interrupting it for photographs.
Patrick’s reaction gave us exactly the kind of imagery we hope for: expressive, imperfect, emotional, and completely real.
Afterward, we moved between the rooftop and Hotel Colee's interiors for a mixture of candid photographs and more intentional editorial portraits.
Modern Wedding Photography at Hotel Colee
One of our favorite things about photographing a Hotel Colee wedding in Atlanta is the range of environments available within a relatively small area.
Allison and Patrick’s gallery moves from soft black-and-white portraiture to direct-flash images, dramatic dark interiors, colorful contemporary artwork, rooftop skyline views, and candid photographs of the two of them together.
That variety is central to the way we photograph weddings at Papillon Visuals.
We don't believe a wedding gallery has to choose between being beautiful and being honest. Our approach combines documentary wedding photography with editorial portraiture and film-inspired imagery, allowing the polished photographs and the spontaneous moments to exist alongside one another.

An Intimate Candlelit Wedding Ceremony in Buckhead
For the ceremony, the atmosphere shifted completely.
Warm candlelight lined the aisle while soft draping created an intimate ceremony backdrop. Against the darker room, the candlelight gave the space a romantic, almost cinematic quality.
Allison walked down the aisle in the glow of dozens of candles before she and Patrick exchanged vows surrounded by their closest family and friends.
We photographed the ceremony with an intentionally unobtrusive approach, looking not only for the expected moments but for the smaller ones happening around them: expressions, movement, nervousness, laughter, and the reactions of the people they love.
Those photographs are often the ones that become increasingly meaningful with time.

An Elegant Wedding Reception at 5Church Buckhead
Following the ceremony, the celebration continued at 5Church Buckhead, whose glass-enclosed rooftop space created an entirely different atmosphere for the reception.
The space was filled with greenery, white florals, candlelight, deep teal seating, and dramatic floral installations. Surrounded by windows, guests could experience the city around them while still having the intimacy of a private reception.
The contrast between Hotel Colee's darker interiors and 5Church's light-filled rooftop also gave Allison and Patrick's wedding gallery a tremendous amount of visual variety.
During the reception, our focus shifted even further toward documentary photography.
Speeches, embraces, tears, reactions from family members, dinner, and Allison and Patrick dancing together all became part of the story. Instead of recreating moments for the camera, we watched for the ones already happening.

Allison and Patrick's photographs are a perfect example of the balance we strive for at Papillon Visuals.
