Summer Engagement Session at Piedmont Park

There are few places that feel quite as quintessentially Atlanta as Piedmont Park in the summertime. Lush greenery, views of the Midtown skyline, Lake Clara Meer, historic stonework, and pockets of soft golden light make it an incredible backdrop for an engagement session that feels both romantic and unmistakably connected to the city.

For Emma and Austin’s Piedmont Park engagement session, we spent the afternoon wandering through some of our favorite corners of the park, documenting this chapter of their story before they head down the aisle at Vinewood Stables in Newnan, Georgia.

A Romantic Summer Engagement Session in Atlanta

Emma and Austin chose the perfect look for a summer session: soft neutrals, a romantic floral dress, and an effortless style that complemented the natural landscape of Piedmont Park rather than competing with it.

We wanted their photographs to have that same effortless quality.

Our approach to engagement photography is a blend of documentary storytelling and editorial portraiture. There’s direction when it’s helpful, but we also want couples to have enough space to move, interact, laugh, and simply be together.

Throughout Emma and Austin’s session, we photographed them walking hand-in-hand, dancing beside the lake, exploring the park, and settling into quieter moments together. Some of our favorite images are the ones that feel almost like stills pulled from a movie—the slight blur of two people walking past the mirrors, a hand reaching toward another, or the two of them sitting together in the afternoon light.

Why We Love Piedmont Park Engagement Photos

Piedmont Park has so much more visual variety than you might expect from a single engagement photo location.

Within one session, you can move between sweeping skyline views, open fields, wooded paths, the lake, stone staircases, historic architecture, and some of the park’s more unexpected artistic details. That variety allowed Emma and Austin’s gallery to move between classic engagement portraits and more artistic, documentary photographs without ever leaving the park.

The Atlanta skyline rising beyond the trees and lake is particularly beautiful. It gives the photographs a sense of place without turning the city itself into the entire focus of the session.

And in summer, Piedmont Park is at its greenest. The combination of dense foliage, flowering trees, water, stone, and warm afternoon light gave Emma and Austin’s photographs an almost nostalgic quality that we loved.

Engagement Photography That Feels Like You

An engagement session is about more than getting a beautiful photograph for a save-the-date.

It’s one of the few times during the wedding experience when there’s nowhere else you need to be.

There’s no ceremony beginning in fifteen minutes, no reception timeline, and no guests waiting for you. We can slow down, experiment, and create photographs that feel intimate and personal.

That freedom is also why engagement sessions are such a great opportunity for couples to become comfortable in front of the camera before their wedding day.

For Emma and Austin, we incorporated movement throughout the session—walking, dancing, holding hands, and interacting naturally rather than relying exclusively on traditional poses. The result feels romantic without becoming overly staged: a little editorial, a little cinematic, and a lot like them.

From Piedmont Park to Vinewood Stables

The next chapter for Emma and Austin will take us outside Atlanta to Vinewood Stables in Newnan, Georgia, where they'll soon celebrate their wedding day.

Their Piedmont Park engagement photos feel like the perfect beginning to that story. There’s something special about documenting a couple in the heart of Atlanta before photographing the wedding itself against the pastoral setting of a Georgia estate.
